University Overview
Based in Melbourne, Victoria University (VU) is a dual-sector university, committed to delivering an outstanding learning experience that empowers students from diverse backgrounds to grow their capabilities and achieve their true potential.
It is one of the few Australian universities that provide both higher education and vocational education and training. Flexible learning pathways allow students to design their own study journey, entering from various points and exiting when they've reached their study or career goals.
Another of VU's distinguishing features is strong connections to industry and the community. These connections to industry bodies allow VU courses to match current and future industry needs so that students graduate job-ready and are valued by employers.
Undergraduate
Undergraduate courses at VU include certificates, diplomas and advanced diplomas, and bachelor degrees and bachelor degrees with honours.
Students choose to study in one or more of VU's seven academic colleges: Arts, Business, Education, Engineering and Science, Health and Biomedicine, Law and Justice, and Sport and Exercise Science. VU also has a standalone vocational education and training institute, Victoria University Institute of Technology, and Victoria University College which delivers pathway programs and coordinates transnational education.
Postgraduate
Postgraduate courses at VU include graduate certificates, graduate diplomas, master and doctoral degrees.
Students can choose to conduct their postgraduate study in one of VU's seven academic colleges: Arts, Business, Education, Engineering and Science, Health and Biomedicine, Law and Justice, and Sport and Exercise Science.
Postgraduate research students can also align their studies with one of VU's six research institutes and seven research centres. Research focus areas are built around the themes of Sport, Health and Active Living; Education, Lifelong Learning and Workforce Development; and Sustainable Industries and Liveable Cities, each of which contributes to a fourth, cross-cutting, Public Policy Theme.
Study Online
While VU does deliver some units of study online, it does not offer courses delivered solely in an online environment.
International Students
VU is firmly established as a leader in transnational education, with partners in China (VU is one of the largest Australian TNE providers), Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam. VU continues to strengthen operations as an international university that is responsive to the changing world of work locally, nationally and globally.
VU has a wide variety of support programs for international students. Even before they arrive in Australia, the University provides overseas students with the necessary information they need to be well-prepared. A representative of the University will meet new students at the airport and transport them to their accommodation free of charge.
VU also offers assistance to students in terms of accommodation options. The University can help to arrange short-term and long-term accommodation options including student residences, private rentals and homestay. Academic support, counselling services, orientation programs and social activities for international students are all offered by the University. International student scholarships and financial assistance are also available for students who meet the eligibility requirements.
