University Overview
The University is named in honour of the explorer Captain Charles Sturt who, in the 1820s - 1830s, mapped the main rivers of eastern Australia and opened up vast areas of the State of New South Wales in which CSUs three campuses are established. Those campuses - in the cities of Bathurst, Wagga Wagga and Albury-Wodonga - have earned a reputation for producing graduates prepared for effective entry into the work force and immediate on the job performance.
Charles Sturt University has a strong tradition of face-to-face teaching and convenient student access to lecturers and support staff. With excellent facilities and services at all campuses, CSU provides an outstanding environment for successful study.
Charles Sturt University has emerged as a leader in the delivery of information technology services. It is one of the largest distance education course providers in Australia, with thousands of students studying CSU courses at home from all over the world, using this technology.
Undergraduate
Over 400 undergraduate degrees in various areas of study such as agricultural sciences, allied and health pharmacy, animal sciences, business, communication, engineering, humanities and social sciences, information technology and psychology are available at CSU. Undergraduate students also have the option to study on campus, at specialist study centers, by distance education or through partner institutions.
For students who want to study abroad and experience a new culture, they are encouraged to apply for the student exchange and overseas study opportunities programs. Postgraduate
CSU postgraduate programs can be categorized according to doctorates and masters by research courses and doctorate and master research by thesis courses. Under the doctorates and masters by research courses, CSU offers the doctor of philosophy (PhD), research professional doctorates and research masters programs. Study areas include business, communication, health science, information technology, arts, education, social work and veterinary studies.
For students who opt to take doctorate and master research by thesis courses, they may choose from different levels of study such as graduate certificate, graduate diploma, masters and doctoral. Study areas in this category include arts, business, education and science.
Study Online
CSU is a leading provider of distance education courses in Australia. Students can study in different levels such as undergraduate, honours, postgraduate and higher degree by research. Studying off-campus at CSU gives students the chance to continue work, lifestyle and family commitments while studying towards their career.
CSU external students can choose from a wide variety of study areas including agricultural and wine sciences, allied and health pharmacy, animal and veterinary sciences, business, communication and creative industries, environmental science and outdoor recreation, nursing and psychology and medical science and dentistry.
Online support is available for all study online students through a range of online services, including a personalized portal, student support and subject forums, and the University's online scholarly environment CSU Interact. International Students
Charles Sturt University has designed comprehensive support programs for overseas students. The universityhas compiled a pre-departure guide which will help international students in planning their trip to Australia. Some of the information included in the guide are matters on the Compulsory Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), student Visas, accommodation arrangements and arrival set-ups and pick-up.
CSU's international orientation program and on campus International student support officers are available to assist students in making the transition to living and studying in Australia easier. International students are generally required to pay the full fee for undergraduate study while both local and undergraduate students can be required to pay the full fee for postgraduate study. Scholarships
CSU provides access to a variety of scholarships for indigenous and Australian students as well as for students who come from low income earning families, those who live in remote/rural areas and students who have come from TAFE or studying via a TAFE partnership. CSU is also registered to receive various scholarships on behalf of the Department of Education and Training.
Charles Sturt University Foundation Scholarships are available to undergraduate international students and there are some CSU Faculty scholarships that are available to international research students. There may also be other scholarship options for international students including Australian Government and international agencies.
University Life
When students study in CSU, it's not all about coursework. University life at CSU also means taking on new interests and having fun while studying. Students have a lot of positive things to say about CSU including how they find the campus to be beautiful. Students add that having a small campus turns out to be an advantage because it makes meeting people and running into friends easier. Many students also appreciate the cafes on campus which allows them to catch up with friends.
Another aspect of CSU stated in many of the reviews is its great facilities. Special mentions are made regarding the gym and sporting fields, spacious lecture theatres and the large library which can accommodate a lot of students at a time. Students appreciate the welcoming, functional and comfortable school buildings along with facilities such as the computer lab.
